The dust jacket is in fair condition with a closed tear along the fore-edge of the front front panel that almost completely separates the flap from the front panel and smaller tear on other edges.

The author was an American astronomer who worked with the government on Projects Sega and Grudge.
He developed the "Close Encounters" classification system.
He is said to have believed that the UFO thesis had not been disproved and privately was influenced by the beliefs of Rudolf Steiner.
He was a professor of Astronomy at Northwestern University and had served on the government's PROJECT BLUE BOOK at the time of publication of the book.
