A Scottish born geologist and geographer, Falconer was stationed in Central Sudan to oversee the official mineral survey in 1904.
He later acted as Assistant District Commissioner for Nigeria during the First World War.
His second book, The Geology and Geography of Northern Nigeria, was also published in 1911.
This edition includes a six page publisher's advertisement for further contemporary travel works.
