Product Description

First Edition, First Printing -- Signed by President Calvin Coolidge -- of this biography of the 30th President of the United States that was published during the first year of his elected term. The biographer was legendary Kansas newspaper editor William Allen White. Signed by Calvin Coolidge with generic best wishes on the front endpaper. Cloth, 252 pages, illustrated. No dust jacket. A bright copy with minimal sign of previous use. There's a period blindstamp of a house address on the half-title page, and there's a small, period book store sticker on the back endpaper. The street address on blindstamp is for a house in the then-swank neighborhood in Baltimore. The store sticker is from the book department of a major Baltimore department store of the era. Hochschild, Koch & Co. Calvin Coolidge made a Presidential visit to Baltimore in March 1926 to receive a special flag from the local Women's Republic Club (those were days). While we don't have direct provenance for the signature, the period Baltimore elements with the copy and President Coolidge's flag visit to Charm City are a notable coincidence.
