8vo. pp viii, 63,[1], 29 plate leaves. Collation therefore runs: Engraved title page signed I Ware, with a portrait of Palladio, part-title The First Book of Andrea Palladio, explanation of terms (six pages), 63 pages of text, with Advertisement for the whole Four Books of Palladios Architecture on verso of page 63, followed by XXXIV numbered engravings on 29 leaves. No place, and no publisher given. Collated complete and correct, with original endpapers present. No marks or annotations. Contemporary mottled calf, edges speckled, raised bands but spine unlettered, gilt lines to boards and bands. Hinges slightly rubbed, and binding slightly marked but a nice clean example in original binding. A famous rarity amongst architectural books in equally unusually good condition. Ware was the first translator of Palladio s works in full, and seems to have produced this volume as a personal initiative (hence without place or publisher) a taster perhaps of the larger enterprise. More pictures provided gladly upon request. ESTC N47296.
