1st edition, 1st printing, 1953. E.V. Gordon's edition of the Middle English poem Pearl. As stated by Gordon's wife, Ida, in the introduction, this was an edition begun by Gordon and Tolkien together, however, with Tolkien being busy at the time Gordon undertook to finish the work. Tolkien did provide assistance to the final edits after Gordon's sudden death in 1938, but this was some years later, when Ida, also a philologist, decided to complete Gordon's work. No signatures, inscriptions of book plates, covers and spine excellent, binding firm, very good dust jacket, not price clipped, with closed tears/chipping. Books are exempt from US tariffs.
