Inscribed to the front free endpaper by American actress Jessie Royce Landis, known for her roles in Hitchcock's 'To Catch a Thief' and 'North by Northwest'.
Landis was in the first production of this play, playing the character of Janet Archer, and her inscription reads 'Dear Rudolf, this shows we can both pick a winner - Remember you were one of the first to read it? Bless you - love Royce, Dec- 29 - 1943'.
