The illustration in this copy is of a skull rising over the New Mexico landscape with an eagle in the sky above them. Ernest Franklin was a Navajo artist who liked embellishing Hillerman's books with drawings reflecting Native culture. First edition (first printing, with a numberline ending in 1).
