Deep green buckram boards with blindstamped border and intricate blindstamped spine decoration, with golden lyre cover design and spine titles in gilt, all edges gilt as well.
With frontispiece portrait of the author, with his signature on the plate.
The VG+ book's covers are lightly rubbed, with two small stains on the lower front, and the spine has browned, its gilt faded.
Front and back cover gilt is still bright.
Spine head and heel have some slight wear.
The binding is tight, the text is very bright and clean, only a few widely scattered tiny spots in the text, possibly printing artifacts.
There are a couple small handsome booksellers' labels on the front and rear.

Overall the book is in very good shape for its age.
