Stated second printing in 1945 of the first edition of 1944. Prepared under the direction of the Chief of the Air Corps, United States Army. Bound in blue cloth with title in teal on the spine. Spine leans and is creased , but the binding is firm. . Corners, edges and spine caps lightly worn. Pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. The author was an arctic explorer and ethnologist. He was the leader of the ill-fated Canadian Arctic Expedition of 1913-1916 during which the ship Karluk and many of its crew were lost. Later in life he was the Director of Polar studies at Dartmouth College. Includes 3 pages of photographs and 3 pages of drawings in black and white., including one showing who to build an igloo.
