Product Description

First Edition (NAP). Flat-signed by the author on the blank second front end paper. You can see the covers of the book in the photos. If you're interested in a few other photos just contact me. There is a short, thin whitish line on the rear cover, also a few smooth scratches. There is crinkling at both spine ends. The gilt lettering on the spine is slightly faded. On the rear cover there's a tiny bump off the top edge and a tiny bump/crease above the bottom corner. The cover edges are in good shape, no rubbing. The two bottom corners each have one speck-sized spot of rub-through. The top page edge has a light red tint. It looks very good. The middle and bottom page edges are deckled or rough-cut. They did a very good job. The spine has a slight forward lean, but the book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. There is one instance of a space between two facing pages, the By Pearl S. Buck page and the half-title page. It is very thin though a little webbing is showing. Both facing pages are tightly bound from top to bottom. All of the pages in the book are exceptionally clean. I turned them all over without finding any conspicuous soiling, only a few specks and one spot at a margin. I didn't find any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corner creases, no placeholder creases. There are some very minor imperfections. On some early pages a sliver of the red coloring from the top page edge peeked over the top edges of the pages. Also, what was likely a newspaper clipping was left between pages 26 and 27, lightly tanning the bottom halves of both pages. And there are seven pages, around the middle of the book, with a thin, little tear off their bottom edges, ranging in length from 1/4 to 1/2 inch, thus far from the print. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And Ms. Buck's signature is the only writing to be found anywhere. The dust jacket is in very decent shape. You can see it in the first few photos. There is a triangular tear off the front top edge. There is a tiny loss off the bottom edge of the spine, a tiny scuff off the top edge of the spine. There's a little loss at the front top corner. The jacket is quite clean. There are a few spots on the spine where the color faded a bit. The white flaps are very clean and in very good shape. The previous owner did make a thin tucking-in clip at each of the four corners, however the price was unaffected, not clipped. The jacket is in a fitted protective cover. From the dust jacket: 'In her first novel of China in three years Pearl Buck writes once more in the mood and vein of The Good Earth and The Mother. Like those two classic novels this one tells of plain people dwelling close to the Chinese soil, but a soil now trodden by the invader. We are confident that Dragon Seed will be ranked permanently with the author's finest work.' From AI: 'Dragon Seed, a 1942 novel by Pearl S. Buck, depicts the impact of...
