Description

Lot of 2 Suzuki Mannen Woodblock Prints, Suzuki Mannen, Japan, 1890s, 4.5 x 7 inches, 1 pp each. Two woodblock prints with black and red ink; paper is moderately toned but in excellent condition, with no apparent edge wear or creasing; each print mounted to white paper mat, but appear easy to remove with no or very little damage; very good condition. I was unable to find much information online about the artist, Suzuki Mannen (or Mannen Suzuki); they appear to have been a late 19th century Japanese artist, creating ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Ukiyo-e translates as ""picture[s] of the floating world""; it was a Japanese art genre popular in the 17th through the 19th centuries, and oft-depicted subjects included kabuki theater actors, beautiful women, and sumo wrestlers.
