Hardcover, pale green cloth boards fully decorated on front, gilt text on spine.
Exterior shows edge and corner bumps/wear and rear board has a stain in the upper left corner.
Spine is also sunned.
The internal binding is good, no hinge issues at boards.
Pages are toned due to age and there is some scattered foxing and spotting present.
The front end page contains a 1903 gift inscription, no other handwriting found, no bookplates, no library markings.
Page 52 as the upper outside corner torn out - this issue as well outside of the text area.
All 23 illustrations have been verified as being present.
The illustration at page 124 protrudes slightly from the exterior page edge which may be an indication that it was reattached at some point.
First edition thus with a single date of 1895 appearing on the copyright page and no date listed on the title page.
