The words "First Edition" have to be present on the copyright page for this to be a true first edition in the collector's sense (i.

, first edition, first printing).
On a personal note, this was one of the most enlightening books I read when studying church history in graduate school (I read the Harper Torchbooks softcover edition, not this copy).
It opened my eyes to the five different ways that individuals, and groups of believers, have historically grappled with what it means for a Christian believer/group to be "in the world but not of it.
" Condition: Binding square and tight, contents unmarked, toning to endpapers, upper and lower board edges lightly foxed, lower board edges rubbed as well, top edge of textblock also lightly foxed, in unclipped dj with a bit of chipping and short closed tears to extremities and uneven light toning to rear panel.
This copy presents itself on the whole better than the sum of its minor blemishes, and the dj is now covered in a protective mylar sleeve to preserve it in its current state.
