Product Description

A very scarce presentation copy of this rare first edition title, dedicated to Cardinal O'Connell.
A very scarce first edition copy of this collection of poetry by Catholic American writer Thomas Walsh.
This title, bound in bright original yellow cloth, and decorated with gilt lettering, is one of 4 works of poetry published in Walsh's lifetime, before his sudden demise on the steps of his house in 1928.
This is an incredibly scarce presentation copy of this title, featuring an ink inscription by the author to the front free endpaper which dedicates this book to Cardinal O'Connell.
O'Connell was the archbishop of Boston between 1907 and 1944, and faced scandal in 1920 when relatives of his serving as priests were found to be married and embezzling from the archdiocese, with O'Connell's inactive knowledge.
A stamp to the front free endpaper alludes to this copy having been owned at one time by the Marycliff Library in Winchester, Massachusetts.
