Small octavo, 49pp. About fine in the publisher's black and patterned paper boards with black cloth spine. Spine just a tinge cocked, else a very nice example, lacking the original plain, unpreinted dust jacket. This is number 13 of 280 numbered copies printed on Arches paper (of a total edition of 330 copies). A desirable association copy, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Warren on the front free endpaper to writer and influential literature professor Wallace Fowlie on the front free endpaper in the year of publication: ""To Wallace Fowlie, with warmest regards. Cinina & Red Warren. Christmas 1946."" Fowlie is best known for his translations of Rimbaud's poetry into English, which brought the 19th century French poet newfound fame in the mid-20th century. These translations would become a major influence on poets, writers, and musicians; particularly Jim Morrison and Patti Smith, among others. At the time of the inscription, Fowlie had taken his place as the foremost scholar of French literature in America, earning a Guggenheim fellowship the following year (1947). A most appealing association copy.
