First Edition/First Printing. Hardcover. Good book in black cloth with touches of wear and rubbing to the edges. Lacking the dust jacket. Small tear to the half title page and a bookseller label to the front pastedown. Lavishly signed and inscribed by the author on the title page to a hotelier in the year of publication. An interesting biography published three decades after the subjects death, the cult writer Frederick Rolfe (AKA Baron Corvo). Symons relies on copious letters, papers and living associates, friends and family of Rolfe to piece together the biography. Rolf fought and alienated virtually everyone he befriended, and suffered a life time of poverty before dying destitute in Venice in 1913.
