Sir William Osler (1849-1919), a Canadian physician, is known as the "Father of Modern Medicine" for revolutionizing the way in which students were taught during his tenure at Johns Hopkins University Medical School.
In particular, he played a central role in establishing the internship and residency system, and also instituted the method of training students at the bedside of the patient.

In three quarter burgundy morocco over marbled paper boards, with gilt-stamped titling and ornaments, gilt and blind-stamped borders, four raised bands, and marbled endpapers.
