Pinter's screenplay based on Elizabeth Bowen's 1948 book of the same name, her most popular. Set in England during WW2, the story follows Stella, pursued by an admirer, who claims to be a spy for the allies. He tries to inform Stella, of the motives of her partner. Pinter wrote this screenplay for the BBC to great acclaim, starring Michael Gambon, Patricia Hodge and Michael York.
