Description

STAINED-GLASS ART JOHANNES SCHREITER NEUE GLASBILDER 1965 H.H. HOFSTATTER 1965. I had hesitated to list this book because it is all in German—not my forte—and it is about stained-glass art. However, when I perused the book and saw the magnificent stained-glass works presented (as tipped-in color plates) I felt certain that someone would like to add it to their collection. And then Wikipedia came through with an interesting synopsis of his career and work. Please find an excerpt from same herewith (with my thanks): “Johannes Schreiter (born 8 March 1930) is a German graphic artist, printmaker, designer of stained glass, theoretician and cultural critic… Part of the influential Post-War German school of stained glass, Schreiter's work is characterized by the exploitation of lead as a graphic rather than solely structural element; the use of translucent, unpainted glass; and by a highly-developed and personal language of symbols. Regarded as occupying a position of pre-eminence in the stained glass of the 20th century, works by Schreiter can be found in historical and contemporary buildings, museums, and public and private art collections worldwide.” I am pleased to offer: “Johannes Schreiter—Neue Glasbilder” by Hans H. Hofstatter. This medium-sized but relatively thin hard cover book (8 ¾ x 9 ½ inches, 44 pages) was published by Heinz Moos Verlag of Munich dated 1965. The book is very well illustrated with many plates featuring the works of the Artist including eight fantastic tipped-in color plates and many more b&w ones. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers show some light edge wear and darkening along the margins but nothing extreme. Inside the book is unmarked but the pages show some toning along the margins of some pages particularly the leading edge, again nothing severe. I found some foxing or perhaps they are smoke stains on the final two pages. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
