Product Description

by Robert Finnegan, pen name of Paul William Ryan, AKA Mike Quin. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1948. First edition, first printing. 1948 printed to the title page and $2.00 to the jacket's flap. An Inner Sanctum Mystery publication. Third of four hard-boiled, well-plotted mysteries featuring investigative crime reporter Dan Banion in San Francisco, post WWII. Finnegan was famous as Mike Quin, writing about labor, unions, disputes, activism, Marxism, for the WPA, and being effected by the Depression toward becoming an active American Communist, before writing as a mystery author. Two mild, small stains to the lower rear cover end, light rubbing to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips, pages starting to tan as usual, else tight and very good in waxed turquoise linen boards with black Inner Sanctum reading face insignia to the front cover and with black embossed titles, insignia and rules to the spine; in a very good dust jacket with mystery art by H. Lawrence Hoffman, with a few short shelf-edge tears, some tiny chips to the upper and lower spine edge area, light tan stains to the lower end of the rear panel. The dust jacket will be placed in a clear, removable protective sleeve after scanning for this entry.
