Clement Hall (1706-1759) was from England and moved to North Carolina in 1731.
He had a 104 acre plantation on the Perquimans River and was appointed a justice of the Perquimans County Court in 1739.
He had a reputation of being an strong Christian and was convinced to become a local missionary for the Church of England in 1743.
As he traveled about the colony, he came up with the idea for this book, and it was printed by James Davis in Newbern in 1753.
It is believed to be the first non-legal book printed in North Carolina.
This is a 1961 facsimile reprint of the 1753 book, which is exceedingly rare.
