An extensive collection of offprints and publications by the German-Swiss chemist Christian Friedrich Schönbein, ranging from 1837 to 1868, bound in four volumes (half leather over marbled boards), three of the 8°, one 4°. With his most important publications on Ozone (e.g. ""Beobachtungen über den bei der Elektrolyse des Wassers . sich entwickelnden Geruch"", 1840, ""Über die Erzeugung des Ozons auf chemischem Wege"" 1844), on the principle of the fuel cell (e.g. ""Beobachtungen über die elektrische Polarisation fester und flüssiger Leiter"", 1838, and ""Neue Beobachtungen."", 1839). - The collection was obviously gathered by someone very close to Schönbein. One title bears a stamp of Theophil Lotz, a well-known Basel physician. A number of titles from the ""Verhandlungen der Naturforschenden Gesellschaft zu Basel"" are proofsheets corrected by Schönbein, partly with signed notes like ""Ich bitte, mir diesen Bogen noch einmal zur Durchsicht zu schicken!
