Contains 38 actual specimens of Flies and fly making materials in oval sunken mounts (all dressed by Hardy Bros, Ltd. of Alnick), with 20 color samples of shades of silk. [2], 106, [1] pp. 1 vols. 8vo. "A remarkable book on fly dressing and fly fishing on rocky rivers" (Hampton's Angling Bibliography). This copy with the contemporary ownership signature of Francis Colchester-Wemyss, "F. Colchester-Wemyss October 1916", and his bookplate, with notice of his donation to the library of the Flyfishers' Club (London), with the club bookplate and their letter of release dated 2014. Sir Maynard Francis Colchester-Wemyss (1872-1954) was a founding member of the International Wine and Food Society and author of The Pleasures of the Table (1931). Edmonds was a businessman who lived at Empsay Cottage "up the road from Bolton Abbey"; Lee was a Bradford solicitor who was secretary to the Appletrewick, Barden and Burnsall angling club from 1913; several of their patters are similar to those listed in Swarbrick's List of Wharfedale Flies (1807) and Pritt's classic Yorkshire Trout Flies (1885). Smith Settle produced a new edition in 2003 with an essay on the authors and their flies by Leslie Magee. A signifcant work with actual hand-tied flies. The 36 examples of Wet Flies are numbered 1-34, with two examples (A and B) for 8 and 13; the two Dry Flies, Ginger Spinner and Red Spinner, are numbered 35 and 36: "These dry patterns have killed fish under particularly hopeless and difficult conditions" (p. 59).
