8vo., viii, 22 pages, 2 illustrations, set in 'Monotype' Garamond by Solo-Type Upton-upon- Severn, Worcestershire and printed by hand at the Oxford Printmaker's Co-operative Oxford by the author, woodcut design to title-page by Lady Felicity Fisher, original printed boards with upper cover titled in black and linocut design by Hazel Campbell showing Glasgow from the south-west, circa 1740 by courtesy of the University of Glasgow Archives. A fine clean copy of this fine production. About 250 copies printed together with a few for his friends of which this is A Presentation Copy to his friend Ruari McLean, the leading British typographic designer. The inscription reads 'With thanks for much help, advice and kindness, David, Oxford 1985.' Also loosely inserted are two Partick Press compliment slips each intialled by the author. (Donovan & Jerris, H4330). This is the first of four essays on 'Early Golf' by Dr. Hamilton, published between 1985 and 1988. This being a fine essay on golf and golf course architecture in the Glasgow area beginning in the late 16th century, and features Glasgow student James Arbuckle's 1721 poem ""Glotta"".
