This is a very good example of the rare first edition.
Although the first edition was not illustrated, it was nevertheless a very important and pioneering book in the history and evolution of garden design.
It challenged the conventions of Victorian garden making and advocated a naturalistic style in which hardy plants are arranged so as to mimic the wild landscape.
Ahead of its time, it changed gardening for ever.
