Original hand-drawn/painted/written Souvenirs book belonging to J. Marguerite Hodgkinson [Daisy], dated 1895. Daisy s Baptism, Confirmation & First Communion Record is laid in. She was baptized on 14/8/1879 at All Saints Church, Stoke Newington; confirmed on 30/5/1893 at Holy Trinity Church Lyons [France]; first communion on 4/6 [1893] also at the Holy Trinity Church. With hand-painted title page, probably done by Daisy s mother, who has written the first entry in the book It is crammed full of handwritten autographs, including sayings, poetry and prose excerpts from famous literature, signed by friends and family, plus hand-done sketches and paintings. One of the paintings is of the ship HMS Conway, and laid in is an unidentified photograph, taken in Spalding, of a young man in Naval uniform. Written in French and English - it appears the family split their time between the two countries. There are dates and places on a number of the written and pictorial entries. The album has 120 pages in all, with entries on all but a few. They are dated 1895-1899 [There is a page done presumably by Daisy herself From my bouquet Ladies Night Regent Lodge January 9th 1932 . There is stamp paper where this was attached, but the attachment is missing, presumably deteriorated.] 150 written entries with signatures. There are 28 pictorial images, including pencil sketches, pen and ink drawings, watercolours. Many of the entries are in French, some from friends in Lyon, France. There are also two entries in foreign script, which I think are Hebrew and Russian. The English entries are from various places including London, Frieston Priory, Moulton, Boston, Spalding. The album has a black faux leather cover with ornate brown and gilt endpapers, all edges gilt. Condition: The cover has a little edge wear with small loss to top and bottom of the spine. Spine binding a little loose, especially at one place in the book, but all pages attached. Other than that the pages are still bright and clear with very little in the way of age toning or stains.
