This copy of "The Viking Book of Poetry of the English-Speaking World", compiled and edited by Richard Aldington, is bound in leather over marbled boards. There are five raised bands on the spine and gilt titles. Inside, the endpapers are also clad in a different marbled paper. This version is as nice as any of the cloth versions described by their booksellers online. There is an opening Introductory Essay by Aldington who explains that this anthology which runs to 1300 poems by over 300 authors are his choices but that there is no scope for explaining why each has been chosen. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The leather hard covers are a bit dry and show some light cracks along the gutter but no separation The spine may be sunned as it is much lighter in color than the green quarter spine or corners. There is some edge wear to the leading edge of the marbled paper boards. This book is not marked by a former owner but there are tiny tick marks against the titles of some of the poems in the Table of Contents. Otherwise, the book is unmarked and the interior pages are clean without toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
