First edition (with erratum slip on p.157 and ""Postcript"" on p.140). Octavo. 280pp. About very good with heavy rubbing to the bottom of the boards, splash marks, offsetting to the preliminaries and light foxing to the endpapers in the rare dust jacket, very good with soiling to the spine and moderate wear to the edges, including tears, creases and chips, particularly at the spine ends. Inscribed by Douglas to photographer Islay Lyons: ""For Dear Islay a small Christmas present from Norman Capri 25 Dec 1948."" Lyons was living his lover Kenneth Macpherson in Capri where Douglas spent the last years of his life, often with Lyons and Macpherson. Both were by Douglas's bedside when he died. A wonderful copy inscribed in Douglas's final his years, in the only dust jacket we've ever seen and most likely gifted from his personal library.
