Monthly publication which apparently ran for five years under the leadership of noted western writer Elmer Kelton. Each issue included an engaging feature story written expressly for the Pioneer News-Observer by Elmer Kelton. In addition, the editors selected news items and photographs from frontier-period newspapers and magazines which presented historical events as they were reported by journalists of the day. Each issue is 24 pages and includes facsimile photos, maps, illustrations. A unique and well-presented anthology of western history. Signed and inscribed by Elmer Kelton, ""For Ford Mitchell--This was a work of love, for there turned out to be no money in it--except our own--which we lost. Elmer Kelton 4/1/88."" This bound collection of the first twelve issues of Pioneer News-Observer was limited to 100 copies. Rare today. We find no holdings of this bound set held by institutions.
