THE RIO GRANDE GREAT RIVER IN NORTH AMERICAN HISTORY PAUL HORGAN 2 VOLS 1954 1ST. I acquired this book as I recall with a number of other volumes from the American Rivers and American Lakes series which I have been listing of late. However, this book apparently was not part of that series; please find: Great River-The Rio Grande in North American History by Paul Horgan. This is a two-volume set in a slipcase and the prize-winning Author presents the story of the river through ten centuries including Native Americans-Spanish-Mexican and Anglo-American. These two medium-sized hard cover books (6 ¼ x 9 ¼ inches Vol. 1 to 447 and Vol. 2 to 1020 pages) were published by Rinehart & Company of New York dated 1954- apparently the First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The books are bound in black cloth boards with gilt titles on the spine and housed in a battered & split (top edge) cardboard slipcase with a paste-down label. The books are without illustrations save the paste-down images on the slipcase. Condition: This set of two volumes in their slipcase is in very good condition. As mentioned, however the slipcase is a bit battered and worn and split along the top edge (doubtless easy to fix from the inside). There is also plenty of edge wear and other minor blemishes on the slipcase. The hard covers are generally clean but a bit dust-dulled and the gilt titles a bit faded but still legible. Owing to the slipcase the hard covers are unbumped. Inside the books are unmarked and the pages are clean and bright throughout. All hinges are intact, and the bindings are tight and sound. These books are not ex-library or remainders.
