' Sir Arnold Wesker, 1936-2016, was an English dramatist and anti-nuclear activist.
His early (and most famous) works, such as Chicken Soup with Barley, The Kitchen, and Chips with Everything were closely based on his upbringing in a secular, left-wing Jewish East End family, and met with great acclaim.
The stories in this volume address the tensions - and joys - provoked by generational difference.
The inscription, to the publisher Tom Maschler, then head of Jonathan Cape, is extremely warm in tone, but the determination to 'settle down to prose' went unrealised and Wesker continued to write plays until his death.
