Abraham Lincoln, the War Years.
Signed by author [Pulitzer Prize winner] Carl Sandburg.
Four volumes.
[1939] limited printing; Harcourt; very good vintage full leather hardcovers.
The set was issued in four cloth hardcovers, the first 525 as a limited printing handsigned by the author, poet and biographer Carl Sandburg.
This particular set, though, was bound in red leather ostensibly an out-of-series set intended for a special recipient.
Sandburg's signature is framed neatly on the pastedown, quite a nice effect.
Raised spine bands, gold top edges, and crisp gold text on spine.
Generally tidy and clean, with some typical handling wear.
Unmarked internally; bindings are tight and square.
Illustrated throughout with 663 total images.
Sandburg was awarded the 1940 Pulitzer Prize for history for this titan of biographies.
Presents beautifully.
Truly one-of-a-kind.
Ideal for the discerning Lincoln and/or Sandburg enthusiast.
