CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 15th New Hampshire Infantry was organized in Concord, New Hampshire, October 1862, and mustered in for nine months' service.
The regiment left New Hampshire for New York City November 13, 1862; then sailed for New Orleans, Louisiana, December 19, arriving December 26, and was assigned to the Dept.
of the Gulf.
It participated in several battles including the siege and capture of Port Hudson where they took part in both combat and laborious siege duties.
Also participated in the Battle of Baton Rouge and the Battle of Fort Bislan which was part of the larger campaign to capture New Orleans and control the bayous of Louisiana.
