Introduction by Jean Genet. One of the most influential books of the Black Power movement. At 18 Jackson (1941-1971) was sentenced to from one year to life for stealing from a gas station. At the time of this writing he had spent 10 years in prison, most of that in solitary. While serving his sentence he became involved in revolutionary activity. In 1970 he was charged with the murder of a prison guard as a result of a prison fight, and wrote this book shortly afterward. He was killed during a prison escape attempt in 1971 during which three guards and two inmates were killed. Hardcover, original jacket, illustrated endpapers, 330 pages.
