"People say we are playing God.
My answer is: If we don't play God, who will?" "contemptible pack of damned nonsense" - Francis Crick on The Double Helix "the most unpleasant human being I had ever met" - E.
O.
Wilson on Watson WATSON, James D.
(1928-2025).
The Double Helix A Personal Account of the Discovery of the Structure of DNA.
London: Weidenfeld And Nicolson 1968 1st UK Edition [Portions of the book were published in The Atlantic Monthly].

Very Good.
Extensive photographs, diagrams and illustrations throughout the text.
Original purple cloth binding with gold gilt title and double helix inspired decorations on the spine.
Top edge purple gilt.
Original dust cover.
Rubbing and minor tears to the edges of the dustjacket, the boards are in excellent condition with no discolouration and only very small bumps to a couple of edges.
Internally the book is completely clean and the textblock is tight with a very slight bowing to the spine.
Very minor foxing along the top edge, but absent from the rest of the pages.
The book is completely structurally sound and the cleanliness of the pages and condition of the spine suggest it has been unread.
This is a legendary piece of modern science writing - named by The Library of Congress as one of the 88 books which shaped America and in Modern Library's best nonfiction books of the 20th century.
James D.
Watson's account of the discovery of the double helix chronicles one of the most significant scientific discoveries of the 20th century while also being an engaging and, at times, controversial read.
