Product Description

The Kolb Brothers, Ellsworth and Emory, are Grand Canyon legends.
They established a photography business at the South Rim of Grand Canyon in 1903.
The studio remained in business until Emery's death in 1976.
In 1911, they made a trip by rowboat the length of the Green and Colorado rivers and described it in this book, only the eighth party to successfully run the Grand Canyon.
They documented their trip with hundreds of photos and many feet of movie film.
In addition to this book, their photos and moving pictures formed the basis for a film that showed continuously at their studio, usually narrated by Emery, until his death.
This is a very good copy, blue boards look very clean, photos quite bright.
Both front and rear hinges have been professionally restored.
Age tanning to pages near the front of the book, but most are quite bright.
A newspaper clipping about the Kolb's long-term battle with the National Park Service and the Fred Harvey Company, which tried for year to evict them, was laid in on page 101 and left a stain.
The undated clipping is interesting and appears to be from the early 20th century- it is included, but no longer laid in the book.
Signed in black fountain pen by both brothers on Febuary 13, 2015, making this a very early signed copy, certainly the earliest I've seen.
Photos are the best description.
