Frontispiece shows an engraving of Smellie, first title page decorated with large vignette engraving of an assemblage of birds, second plain title page, each memoir is fronted by an engraved portrait and has the pagination from the original book from which it is extracted.
Full calf prize binding , embossed Edinburgh Institution for Languages, Mathematics etc.
in gilt and with raised bands to spine with leather label in gilt.
Prize award details to front paste-down, dated 1844.
In very good condition throughout.
Although there are signs of a crack at the upper external hinge, the binding is still firm.
Extremely rare.
