Dark tan cloth covered boards with black-stamped illustration of three family figures on front board panel; black background label gilt lettering spine. Upper external page edges are green tinted. Several faint scuffs to front and back board panels. Upper- and lower-most edges at head and tail of board spine have horizontal creases and minor fraying on the corners. Fore-edge corner tips are scuffed. Fore-edge has damp stains to outermost edges on pp. 103-120, appears similar to foxing but it's not. Previous owner's name/date on front paste down. Shadow transfers on end papers. Text pages are age-toned else internally clean. Text block is sound. Dust jacket has shelf-wear scuffs and soil overall, more noticeable against the light background of back jacket panel. Spine and extremities are sunned. Spine and fore-edge folds are creased and scuffed but not rubbed through. Upper and lower edges and corners at head and tail of jacket spine are chipped and rubbed. Upper left corner of front jacket panel has a 3/4" closed vertical tear and with several adjacent diagonal creases to the upper edge of front panel. Lower edge of front panel has horizontal creasing parallel to the lower edge. All fore-edge corners have small amount of loss from rubs. Price of $2.00 is intact on the inside front flap, it has a pencilled line drawn through it and 1.00 written below it. This book is based on "an old Mexican folk tale: the story of the great pearl, how it was found, and how it was lost again."
