vii, 1 leaf [half title], 228 pp. Original cloth. Very Good. First Edition. SIGNED BY JOSEPH DUNNINGER, dated 1940, on the front flyleaf: ""To Anita & Virgil/ __? [I cannot read the last name]/ Chrystals' [sic] very good/ friends/ With the best wishes of/ Dunninger/ 1940."" Chrystal was Dunninger's first wife. Dunninger later stated they had never been married, but the courts said she was his common law wife. They were legally separated in 1944, and finally divorced in 1967. Dunninger was one of the most famous magicians and mentalists in his day. He was an ardent debunker of mediums whom he regarded as frauds. It is the subject of this book. You might enjoy this article about Dunninger, with many photos, in Life Magazine, June 16, 1941, pp. 74-81, ""Spiritualism a Psychic Investigator Exposes Medium's Frauds."" It can be read online for free. The book was published with a dust jacket, which is NOT present with this copy. I will take a signature of the author over a dust jacket any day. What about you?
