ART AND LIFE IN AFRICA SELECTIONS FROM THE STANLEY COLLECTION ROY 1985 DJ NEAR FINE CONDITION. Here for your consideration is another of the group of large format hard cover books about African Art which I have been hanging on to and enjoying but which now need to find new homes. This book was published in coordination with an exhibition at the University of Iowa Museum of Art titled: “Art and Life in Africa—Selections from the Stanley Collection,” by Christopher D. Roy. As usual, Wikipedia provided me with more information about the namesake of this Africa Art collection, to wit: “Claude Maxwell ""Max"" Stanley (1904–1984) was an American engineer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, peace activist, author and world citizen.” He was also a prominent and generous alumni and supporter of the University of Iowa to which he left this collection. This large format hard cover book (9 ¼ x 12 ¼ inches, 202 pages) was published the University of Iowa Museum of Art, dated 1985. It is bound in rich chocolate brown cloth hard covers with black titles on the spine and protected by a double edge folded pictorial dust jacket. The book is very well illustrated with 135 plates and short explanations of each, organized by geographic areas across the African continent. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. The spine of the dust jacket is slightly faded from exposure to the sun but otherwise, without any real defects, still bright and glossy. The hard covers are rich and pristine, without blemish. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are bright and clean from cover to cover. The hinges are fully intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
