Rare sharp early printing in original pictorial wrapper. Stated at copyright: ""First Published May 1910."" This is the fourth printing of November 1937. Ornate gift book with fine deep brown cloth boards, elaborately colored cover and spine design, moderate shelf, corner wear. Front features version of Pogany design from Yvon and Finette tale of dashing bovine caught by the tail in rich hues of blue, green and brown: ""She flew over hill and dale."" Crisp titles in deep blue over brown cloth with vignette of gnome with walking stick over flaring blue orb in b.g. Small Pegasus steed vignette at heel above H and Harrap. Thick deckled leaves very good; toning inside covers. Antiquarian bordered bookplate at front blank endpaper: ""S. Mary's Girls' School, Barnsley, Progress Prize. Presented to Dorothy Hoyle, J. 3., Date: 1939."" Bind good, square; hinges intact. Scarce thick original wrapper in beige repeating same dynamic cover motif and spine titles, design, moderate edge wear, rub; front flap remains unclipped at 3/6 NET, protected in new clear sleeve. Rare very good early printing in wondrous wrapper. Beautiful example of fine vintage bookcraft. Elaborate, profuse, symbolical and complexly illustrated edition by the famed illustrator Willy Pogany. Includes twenty-five deliciously full-page designs and partial-page imagery, vignettes throughout. Four of which are rich color plates.
