Description

The Kolb Brothers, Ellsworth and Emory, are Grand Canyon legends. They established a photography business at the South Rim of Grand Canyon in 1903. The studio remained in business until Emery's death in 1976. In 1911, they made a trip by rowboat the length of the Green and Colorado rivers and described it in this book, only the eighth party to successfully run the Grand Canyon. They documented their trip with hundreds of photos and many feet of movie film. In addition to this book, their photos and moving pictures formed the basis for a film that showed continuously at their studio, usually narrated by Emery, until his death. This is a good copy, noticeable wear at head and heel of spine and corners, rubbed spots on photo on front cover. Both front and rear hinges are cracked but reglued to a solid super (webbing), now seems sturdy, though I wouldn't recommend it for heavy reading. Age tanning to pages, especially those near the front of the book. Signed in black fountain pen by both brothers on February 13, 2015, making this a very early signed copy, certainly the earliest I've seen.
