A near fine copy signed on the half-title by Pierre Salinger. Octavo (9 1/4 x 6 1/8 inches; 235 x 155 mm.). xvi, [1]-391, [1, blank] pp. Sixteen black & white illustrations. Publisher's cream over black cloth boards, spine blocked in black and lettered in gilt, tan endpapers. John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917-1963), or JFK, was the 35th president of the United States. He served from 1961 until his assassination in 1963. A Catholic and the youngest man to be elected president, his brief tenure in the office was focused on civil rights and managing Cold War tensions. A Democrat, Kennedy served in the US Navy and in both the House of Representative and Senate. One contemporary reviewer wrote ""The Kennedy administration seems destined to be distinguished, among its several notable characteristics, for the quality of the memoirs it has inspired"" (Frank Freide). This memoir by Pierre Emil George Salinger (1925-2004), reflects on his career and friendship with Kennedy. Salinger was an author and politician who served as campaign manager for JFK's 1968 presidential campaign, and as press secretary for both Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Near Fine.
