First edition of the English-language translation of De Nacht der Girondijnen, an important fictional account of the Holocaust by a Dutch Jew who survived the German occupation of the Netherlands during the Second World War. Jacques Presser (here Anglicized as Jacob) would go on to write Ondergang. De vervolging en verdelging van het Nederlandse Jodendom 1940–1945, published in English as Extinction. The Persecution and Destruction of Dutch Jewry, 1940–1945. This copy is inscribed to author and journalist John Hersey a decade after publication. This bookseller has been unable to locate any other signed copies of Presser's work. A clean, bright, and fresh copy internally, with moderate wear to the dust jacket.
