Very Good Minus, overall. The book block is largely clean. Sweet gift inscription reading, ""To Daddy from Frankie/ Father's Day, 1948,"" to the FFEP. The red cloth case shows discoloration and wear, particularly around the edges and foot of the spine. First state jacket with Steinbeck's author photo looking toward the spine, unclipped but bearing some chipping and closed tears. First printing. Black and white illustrations. 122 pages. 8.25"" x 5.5"". One of John Steinbeck's (1902-1968) most popular works, The Pearl (1947) is a novella about Kino, a pearl diver. The story itself is derived from a Mexican folktale. Handsomely illustrated with woodcuts by Jose Clemente Orozco (1883-1949) who is perhaps better remembered as a great muralist. .
