Product Description

First edition.
Line drawings by Ellen Haskin.
Following WW2 and independence, India's royalty experienced life-altering changes, including being stripped of power, titles and position in efforts to develop a more egalitarian society.
The author, Hahn, lived in China for a number of years prior to WW2, wrote books about her experiences, and developed many contacts in Asia.
In the 1950s she traveled to India where she attended a glittering party of Indian maharajas and assorted oddball guests -- that included a tiger hunt.
She also attends an auction of some of the "surplus" goods of the Maharaja of Kashmir.

Front cover illustrated with attractive image of a tiger under a tree.
Sketch illustrations.
