Description

A.S. Barnes & Co., New York. 1952. 167 pages. First edition, first printing. Per my findings, this is the earliest published book dedicated to the sport of lacrosse that was issued with a DJ. And while there may have been an older lacrosse book out there that was issued with a DJ, this is the oldest (1952) DJ I can find on the open market. If this isn't interesting enough, the front free-endpaper of this copy contains a previous owner's name: Marshall H. Chambers. Why this is interesting is because Marshall H. Chambers is the namesake trophy awarded annually to the Most Valuable Player on the lacrosse team at The Lawrenceville School. As for condition, binding and hinges are strong and sound. Orange cloth is bright and clean. Light wear along the edges. Endpapers show minor light toning. Original rare DJ with price-clipped flap. Slight sunning to orange hue on DJ backstrip. Shallow chipping at foot and crown. Rear of DJ shows light soiling and old faint clouding. Vintage price penciled-in on flap. A most uncommon, unique offering in its rare DJ, by the HOF coach and Johns Hopkins legend, Kelso Morrill.
