Bigelow served the First Parish (Unitarian) in Medford from 1823-1827, the date of his journey.
First parish Medford dates back to the first puritan congregation in 1690.
The Rev.
William Ellery Channing gave his first sermon there on August 8, 1802.
In 1820, the congregation split with the Trinitarians leaving to form a separate congregation.
Bigelow served the reconfigured Unitarian parish for its first 4 years.
