Product Description

Adelaide, Printed by Openbook Publishers (for the Finke River Mission), 2002. Quarto, xii, 362 pages with maps plus 16 pages of colour plates, a folding map and colour endpapers (reproducing a watercolour of the Mission by Albert Namatjira). Patterned papered boards; one corner very slightly bumped; a near-fine copy. Signed by the author on the title page, and dated 'Hermannsburg, 8/9/02'. He was raised at Hermannsburg where his father, Pastor F.W. Albrecht, was in charge of the Lutheran mission to the Arrernte people of Central Australia, and later succeeded his father, serving as Field Superintendent of the wider Finke River Mission. The substantial appendices contain: stories of Aboriginal pastors; the lengthy reminiscences of Moses Tjalkabota, recorded by F.W. Albrecht in Arrernte and translated here; and F.W. Albrecht's 'Fifty years of mission works in Hermannsburg, Central Australia', translated from the original German.
