First Edition (no later printings noted) of Western Star, Stephen Vincent Benét’s final, unfinished epic poem, published posthumously in 1943 by Farrar & Rinehart. Bound in black cloth with gilt and turquoise lettering to the front board and spine. Dust jacket designed by Hilda Scott, featuring wartime “Buy War Bonds and Stamps” advertisement on rear flap. The book remains tight and clean with only mild toning to pages. Cover gilt remains bright. Some light edge wear to cloth at spine ends. Dust jacket shows chipping, small tears, and moderate edge wear typical of wartime paper, but retains all text and design elements. Jacket now protected in a clear archival sleeve. Benét’s Western Star was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1944, posthumously honoring one of America’s great narrative poets. Printed by H. Wolff, New York. 281 pages.
